Halloween Costume Ideas For Yellow Sweatpants

August 12th, 2010

The yellow sweatpants in your or your child’s pajama drawer may seem like they are only good to be worn around the house or perhaps to play sports or work out. But one of the fun aspects of these colorful yet comfortable garments is that they can serve a double purpose when you use them to enhance your made from scratch Halloween costume.

Making Halloween costumes from home doesn’t require an extensive amount of time or outrageous sewing abilities (not to mention patience and money). If you go about it right, you can assemble a clever, cheap, and low-effort Halloween costume that looks just as good as one from the store, by basing the costume off of things that you or your kids already have lying around.

Take those yellow sweatpants, for example:

One of the most popular costume ideas for yellow sweatpants is to use them as the bottom half of a bumble bee costume. Pair them with a yellow shirt (or sweatshirt, if it is cold where you live in October). Use a black permanent marker, or electrical tape for a temporary solution, to create simple stripes across the shirt and/or the yellow sweatpants, and your costume is more than half complete. With an inexpensive pair of headband mounted antennae and perhaps some clip-on paper wings, you have your self a bumblebee at a very low cost.

Another clever Halloween idea for yellow sweatpants is to go as a lion, or even as specific as the Cowardly Lion from The Wizard of Oz. Pair your yellow sweatpants with a brown shirt or jacket to form the base of the costume. Use face paint or even a makeup pencil of your own to paint on a tiny dark nose and whiskers. Some rope or spare fabric attached with a safety pin makes a great tail. And you could even buy a cheap headband with animal ears, or use a stocking cap or towel as the lion’s mane.

Creating Halloween costumes at home are simple; you just have to be creative and have a little time to brainstorm the perfect combination. If something so simple as yellow sweatpants can yield these costumes, there is no telling what the rest of your pajama drawer or closet could become!

Yellow Sweatpants: Colorful And Comfortable

December 13th, 2009

Yellow sweatpants make great pajamas, work out or athletic clothes, and general attire for lounging around. They can be worn at home or at the gym, and are commonly seen worn by athletes whose team colors include yellow. Colorful to look at and comfortable to wear, yellow sweatpants are vibrant, relaxed, and perhaps best of all, warm and cozy.

Sweatpants themselves may seem like a term that refers to any soft, comfortable pants, but this is not true. Technically, sweatpants most commonly refer to a cotton-based, loose fitting style of casual trouser. The traditional style of sweatpants, including the most popular yellow sweatpants that you will find, rely only on comfortable, lined elastic to keep them on the wearer.

Elastic waistbands are a staple of almost all sweatpants, and in fact, many people would argue that without elastic at the waist, the pants do not qualify as sweatpants at all. Some include both elastic and a drawstring, to give the wearer a bit more control of the fit, height, and security of the pants at the waist.

Traditionally, yellow sweatpants also had elastic at the ankle, to keep the pants snug on the wearer. The benefits of this are twofold: Firstly, it keeps any excess or baggy fabric from being tripped on by the wearer or caught on shoes or other objects; and secondly, when the sweatpants are worn for comfort, it keeps drafts of cool air from sneaking up the leg, thus keeping the wearer warm and comfortable.

But today, elastic at the ankle is on its way out of fashion. You can find elastic ankled yellow sweatpants, but you will probably find even more that have a loose, baggy fit. Often, sweatpants are designed to have excess fabric at the bottom, and they fold or crumple slightly against the shoe. This makes them extra comfortable by giving extra room to move around, and is also in keeping with modern dress, which favors a relaxed fit, particularly when it comes to athletic and casual clothing.

Whether used to work out and exercise, to keep warm before and after a sporting event, or to snuggle up at home and wear to bed, yellow sweatpants offer something for everyone.

Yellow Sweatpants And Other Athletic Wear

November 22nd, 2009

Yellow sweatpants are not just comfortable. They are highly advantageous as a piece of athletic wear, worn most often in practice as well as pre- and post- game situations. There are a number of features that make sweatpants ideal for athletes (both professional and amateur alike, as well as people who just want to work out or exercise to stay in shape). Features that make yellow sweatpants a colorful and convenient addition to physical activity include:

  • Soft, comfortable material. The last thing an athlete needs is uncomfortable clothing with scratchy stitching that irritates or stings the skin. The soft cotton inside of most yellow sweatpants makes them very comfortable during all sorts of movements and motions, even those that are repetitive.
  • Ideal weight. Sweatpants are called “sweats” for a reason. They keep the body warm enough that you will sweat (rather than get cold, which can be bad for your muscles and cause cramps), yet not so hot that you overheat. Sweatpants will also absorb some of the moisture from perspiration, which help keep the athlete comfortable as well.
  • Loose fit. Most sweatpants are baggy and loose-fitting, including a flexible elastic waistband. This gives the athlete full range of motion and does not inhibit the jumping, running, and twisting that is necessary in so many of the most popular sports played today.
  • Colorful. We are using yellow sweatpants as an example here, but sweatpants are available in a wide range of color choices. Of course, this does nothing to impact their physical function as pants, but they can be a team-building and spirit-encouraging part of team sports when worn in the colors of the team. It also encourages uniformity, which gives an emotional and mental advantage for building a sense of community and camaraderie between players in team sports.

Sweatpants are useful in sports for all of the above reasons. Their comfort has also given rise to some variations, including tear away pants, track pants, wind pants (also called windbreakers), and other sport-focused pants. Like yellow sweatpants, these come in many colors and each possess their own individual advantages for encouraging and enabling the comfort and performance of athletes.

Yellow Sweatpants: They’re Not Just For Athletes Anymore

October 2nd, 2009

Yellow sweatpants, and indeed all sweatpants, started out specifically intended and designed for use by athletes in athletic activities. Even the name suggests this, as part of the advantage of sweatpants is their ability to absorb perspiration, while also keeping the athlete’s muscles warm before and after strenuous activity (this reduces the risk of cramping).

But as sweatpants became more popular and more readily available, their advantages outside of athletics became quite apparent. Chief among these advantages is that of comfort. Sweatpants must be loose-fitting and minimally restrictive to allow athletes to move freely and not be confined by their clothing.

But off the field, this loose fitting advantage has little to do with movement. Simply put, yellow sweatpants are incredibly comfortable. They allow the wearer to feel relaxed, and even to change position in bed or on a couch without being pinched or pulled by the clothing. As a result, sweatpants are ideal for casual wear around the house, and even as pajamas in climates and seasons that are not too hot to make them uncomfortable.

Yellow sweatpants, in particular, came into play as sweatpants became increasingly popular and easy to find (and also quite affordable – most plain, casual sweatpants cost no more than $10 or $15). Part of what makes sweatpants not only comfortable, but fun, is that they now come in a huge variety of colors. Yellow sweatpants might be worn by a whole athletic team that has yellow as one of their team colors.

Or, in casual use, they can be worn by anyone who simply likes the color. The bright cheeriness of yellow sweatpants makes them particularly appealing in the winter, when nights are long and dark and the weather is cold. Yellow sweatpants are a small reminder of sunny blue skies and warm afternoons.

Another non-athletic, alternative use for yellow sweatpants can be as part of a child’s Halloween costume. Because sweatpants come in so many colors and are so affordable, they are a great way of finding just the right color to complete costumes like bumblebees and more. And because they are comfortable, yellow sweatpants can be worn for weeks and months after Halloween as pajamas and around-the-house clothes, so the cost is even more worth it.

Top Five Uses For Yellow Sweatpants

September 23rd, 2009

Yellow sweatpants, while simple in design, construction, and style, actually work well to serve a variety of purposes. From very active to very inactive, the uses for these loose fitting, comfortable cotton pants are as diverse as the people who wear them. Here are the top five uses for yellow sweatpants, including a brief discussion of why these pants are so ideally suited to each use.

  1. Athletic practice. You will often see athletes wearing sweatpants (and yellow sweatpants, if they prefer the color or it is one of their team hues) during practice. This is for several reasons. First of all, sweatpants almost always have a loose fit, which makes them easy to move around in. The last thing sport teams need is to be constricted or uncomfortable, both of which hinder movement and performance. Secondly, they keep the body warm without getting too warm. This is especially important for athletes who practice outdoors in cool weather.
  2. Pre- and post-game layering. During actual competition, sports players rarely wear sweatpants. You will generally find them wearing light, loose-fitting shorts and short sleeved t-shirts, which stay out of the way and add minimal weight or drag to the player. But after playing, it is important for athlete’s to keep their muscles warm, especially as their perspiration cools to room temperature. Wearing yellow sweatpants directly before and after competition keeps athletes from cramping.
  3. Pajamas. Quite the opposite of athletic competition, sleeping still has one thin in common with sport: it’s best done in comfortable clothing. Yellow sweatpants make a vibrant and comfortable attire for sleeping. Suited especially for winter, they help keep the sleeper warm without overheating over night.
  4. Lounging / casual clothes. Yellow sweatpants make good pajamas, but they are also substantial enough to be worn around the house with confidence. It is not uncommon to see someone wearing sweatpants to run errands or pick up groceries, though they are not typically worn in restaurants or other establishments.
  5. Costume components. Yellow sweatpants are comfortable and affordable (and re-usable) as components to Halloween costumes. You can send your child as a bumblebee, and then continue using the sweatpants as pajamas, so your money was not wasted.
